Sukta 1

त्वमग्ने द्युभिस्त्वमाशुशुक्षणिस्त्वमद्भ्यस्त्वमश्मनस्परि ।

त्वं वनेभ्यस्त्वमोषधीभ्यस्त्वं नृणां नृपते जायसे शुचिः ॥१॥

O Agni, born of sky and stone,

Through forest deep your flames are known.

From herbs and men, your light ascends,

A ruler vast, a friend who defends. [1]

तवाग्ने होत्रं तव पोत्रमृत्वियं तव नेष्ट्रं त्वमग्निदृतायतः ।

तव प्रशास्त्रं त्वमध्वरीयसि ब्रह्मा चासि गृहपतिश्च नो दमे ॥२॥

O Agni, keeper of sacred fire,

Your wisdom lifts the rites up higher.

Priest and guardian, bold and true,

In every home, we turn to you. [2]

त्वमग्न इन्द्रो वृषभः सतामसि त्वं विष्णुरुरुगायो नमस्यः ।

त्वं ब्रह्मा रयिविद्ब्रह्मणस्पते त्वं विधर्तः सचसे पुरंध्या ॥३॥

O Agni, Indra, great and wise,

With Vishnu’s grace, you bless the skies.

Bringer of wealth, upholder of fate,

Through timeless wisdom, firm and great. [3]

त्वमग्ने राजा वरुणो धृतव्रतस्त्वं मित्रो भवसि दस्म ईड्यः ।

त्वमर्यमा सत्पतिर्यस्य सम्भुजं त्वमंशो विदथे देव भाजयुः ॥४॥

O Agni, ruler, strong and grand,

With Varuna’s law, you guide the land.

Mitra’s kindness, Aryaman’s might,

You shine with justice, pure and bright. [4]

त्वमग्ने त्वष्टा विधते सुवीर्यं तव ग्नावो मित्रमहः सजात्यम् ।

त्वमाशुहेमा ररिषे स्वश्व्यं त्वं नरां शर्धो असि पुरूवसुः ॥५॥

O Agni, shaper of all things,

From battle’s roar your power springs.

With mighty force, with endless grace,

Your fiery hands embrace the space. [5]

त्वमग्ने रुद्रो असुरो महो दिवस्त्वं शर्धो मारुतं पृक्ष ईशिषे ।

त्वं वातैररुणैर्यासि शंगयस्त्वं पूषा विधतः पासि नु त्मना ॥६॥

O Agni, fierce as Rudra’s might,

Through storm and wind your flames ignite.

Puṣan’s wisdom guards the way,

Your presence strong both night and day. [6]

त्वमग्ने द्रविणोदा अरंकृते त्वं देवः सविता रत्नधा असि ।

त्वं भगो नृपते वस्व ईशिषे त्वं पायुर्दमे यस्तेऽविधत् ॥७॥

O Agni, giver of wealth untold,

Through gifts divine, your flames unfold.

Guardian bold, with shining hand,

You bless and shield this sacred land. [7]

त्वामग्ने दम आ विश्पतिं विशस्त्वां राजानं सुविदत्रमृञ्जते ।

त्वं विश्वानि स्वनीक पत्यसे त्वं सहस्राणि शता दश प्रति ॥८॥

O Agni, sovereign, vast and bright,

Your wisdom guides with endless light.

A thousand paths, a hundred ways,

Your power reigns through all our days. [8]

त्वामग्ने पितरमिष्टिभिर्नरस्त्वां भ्रात्राय शम्या तनूरुचम् ।

त्वं पुत्रो भवसि यस्तेऽविधत्त्वं सखा सुशेवः पास्याधृषः ॥९॥

O Agni, father, friend so true,

With brothers’ strength, we turn to you.

As son you rise, as guide you stand,

Your fire shapes the sacred land. [9]

त्वमग्न ऋभुराके नमस्यस्त्वं वाजस्य क्षुमतो राय ईशिषे ।

त्वं वि भास्यनु दक्षि दावने त्वं विशिक्षुरसि यज्ञमातनिः ॥१०॥

O Agni, ruler strong in grace,

Through wealth and power you set the pace.

With wisdom high, you shape the land,

Through sacred rites your flames expand. [10]

त्वमग्ने अदितिर्देव दाशुषे त्वं होत्रा भारती वर्धसे गिरा ।

त्वमिळा शतहिमासि दक्षसे त्वं वृत्रहा वसुपते सरस्वती ॥११॥

O Agni, vast like Aditi’s grace,

Through hymns you shine in time and space.

Slayer of foes, with wisdom deep,

Your blessings bright, through rivers sweep. [11]

त्वमग्ने सुभृत उत्तमं वयस्तव स्पार्हे वर्ण आ संदृशि श्रियः ।

त्वं वाजः प्रतरणो बृहन्नसि त्वं रयिर्बहुलो विश्वतस्पृथुः ॥१२॥

O Agni, holder of great delight,

Your flames burn strong, your glow is bright.

Through wealth and speed, through paths untold,

Your sacred force in time unfolds. [12]

त्वामग्ने आदित्यास आस्यं त्वां जिह्वां शुचयश्चक्रिरे कवे ।

त्वां रातिषाचो अध्वरेषु सश्चिरे त्वे देवा हविरदन्त्याहुतम् ॥१३॥

O Agni, tongue of gods so high,

Their voices soar in endless sky.

Through sacred rites and fires so grand,

Your presence holds the world in hand. [13]

त्वे अग्ने विश्वे अमृतासो अद्रुह आसा देवा हविरदन्त्याहुतम् ।

त्वया मर्तासः स्वदन्त आसुतिं त्वं गर्भो वीरुधां जज्ञिषे शुचिः ॥१४॥

Through Agni’s force, the gods unite,

Their offerings burn, their flames ignite.

O seed of trees, O light untold,

Your fire shapes the stories old. [14]

त्वं तान्सं च प्रति चासि मज्मनाग्ने सुजात प्र च देव रिच्यसे ।

पृक्षो यदत्र महिना वि ते भुवदनु द्यावापृथिवी रोदसी उभे ॥१५॥

O Agni, born of noble fame,

Your wisdom shines, your truth remains.

Through sky and earth, through time untamed,

Your sacred presence stays unclaimed. [15]

ये स्तोतृभ्यो गोअग्रामश्वपेशसमग्ने रातिमुपसृजन्ति सूरयः ।

अस्माञ्च ताँश्च प्र हि नेषि वस्य आ बृहद्वदेम विदथे सुवीराः ॥१६॥

To those who praise, O Agni bright,

Grant wealth and joy, give endless light.

Through words so strong, through hymns divine,

Your blessings weave where fortunes shine. [16]

Sukta 2

यज्ञेन वर्धत जातवेदसमग्निं यजध्वं हविषा तना गिरा ।

समिधानं सुप्रयसं स्वर्णरं द्युक्षं होतारं वृजनेषु धूर्षदम् ॥१॥

By sacred rites, let Agni rise,

With golden flames that touch the skies.

A priest who shines with guiding light,

In homes he stands, so fierce, so bright. [1]

अभि त्वा नक्तीरुषसो ववाशिरेऽग्ने वत्सं न स्वसरेषु धेनवः ।

दिव इवेदरतिर्मानुषा युगा क्षपो भासि पुरुवार संयतः ॥२॥

Like cows that call their young at dawn,

The prayers to Agni now are drawn.

He glows through night, he leads the day,

A thousand years shall know his way. [2]

तं देवा बुध्ने रजसः सुदंससं दिवस्पृथिव्योररतिं न्येरिरे ।

रथमिव वेद्यं शुक्रशोचिषमग्निं मित्रं न क्षितिषु प्रशंस्यम् ॥३॥
