Undocumented migrants gain increasing attention in the EU as a vulnerable group exposed to high health risks. While all EU member states ratified the human right to health care, heterogeneous national public health policies open up different frameworks for health care provision which in many cases severely restrict entitlements for UDM to access health care. Accordingly, practice models how to ensure the human right to health follow different logics. The book provides the first compilation of policies and regulations in EU 27, Norway and Switzerland along with a database compiling examples for related practices, and gives insights into “life stories” of undocumented migrants in their struggle to get access to fundamental rights.

Borders of solidarity.- debates on inclusion and exclusion of undocumented migrants.- Services providing health care for undocumented migrants in Europe and Switzerland: overview on organisations, their services, their personnel and their clients.- Practice in context: five contextualised models of good practice: model descriptions and assessments against the background of policies and client’s needs.- Undocumented migrant’s health care needs and strategies from the perspective of NGOs and civil society.- XX ways to live in NowHereland: experiences of undocumented migrants in the EU and Switzerland.- Insights into living and working situations of undocumented migrants in Reggio Emilia, Italy.- The transatlantic perspective: the US situation.
