This collection presents concepts from epistemology, the methodology of sciences, logic and semiotics, as well as from philosophical anthropology by four philosophers from the Maria Curie-Skłodowska University in Lublin—Narcyz Łubnicki, Ludwik Fleck, Leon Koj, and Zdzisław Cackowski.
This collection consists of texts by four authors—Narcyz Łubnicki, Ludwik Fleck, Leon Koj, and Zdzisław Cackowski—who formed the first two generations of philosophers at the Marie Curie-Skłodowska University. They deal with the problems of human cognitive processes and activities, the structure of everyday and scientific knowledge, including its justification and normativity, extensional and intensional logic, semiotics and pragmatics, as well as the issue of human experience considered from the perspective of ethics and philosophical anthropology. The reader will learn about the history of the initiation and development of the science-oriented, anti-dogmatic, postulative method, and pragmatic directions of philosophical research conducted over half a century.

Marek Hetmański, Ph.D. (1988), Maria Curie-Skłodowska University, is full Professor of Philosophy and Cognitive Science at that university. He has published monographs and many articles on epistemology, including Rationality and Decision Making: From Normative Rules to Heuristics (Brill, 2018). Jan Pomorski, Ph.D. (1980), Adam Mickiewicz University, is full Professor of History and Methodology of History at Maria Curie-Skłodowska University. He has published monographs and many articles on theory and methodology of history, including Homo Metahistoricus (UMCS, 2019).
