»Den Nächsten kennen wie sich selbst« ist das Motto des Konfessionskundlichen Instituts des Evangelischen Bundes in Bensheim. Es beschreibt seine Arbeit, die Welt der christlichen Konfessionen und Ökumene zu beobachten und aus evangelischer Sicht zu beschreiben. Der derzeitigen Leiterin Dagmar Heller ist dieser Band gewidmet. Darin werden zum einen Einblicke in die Konfessionskunde gegeben und zugleich auch der Blick in die Zukunft gerichtet. So werden Fragen nach der Beteiligung von Frauen in der syrisch-orthodoxen Kirche und nach der Bedeutung des Konzils von Nizäa im heutigen ökumenischen Gespräch gestellt oder aber Ökumenisch-konfessionskundliches Lernen in der universitären Ausbildung thematisiert.
