Innovatively bringing together scholars of various nationalities and communities, The Resonance of Joseph Conrad in Contemporary Culture seeks to provide a holistic assessment of the afterlife of Conrad’s work, highlighting how his approach to questions of moral ambiguity and colonialism influence the cultural output of a modern, globalized world.
A hundred years after his death, the life and legacy of the Polish-British novelist Joseph Conrad remains deeply felt in a wide range of global cultural contexts. The Resonance of Joseph Conrad in Contemporary Culture brings together scholars of wide-ranging backgrounds to provide a holistic assessment of the afterlife of Conrad’s work. Ranging from Conrad’s influence upon contemporary writers, to the impact of his translators and his adaptation within film and graphic novels, this volume illuminates how Conrad’s approach to questions of moral ambiguity and the haunting complexities of colonialism continues to inform the cultural output of our modern, globalized world.

Agnieszka Adamowicz-Pośpiech is Professor of English Literature and Translation Studies in the Faculty of Humanities at the University of Silesia and President of the Joseph Conrad Society, Poland. She has published several monographs on Conrad, translation studies, and adaptation studies, the most recent of which is Adaptations of J. Conrad’s Life and Works in Contemporary Culture (Katowice, 2022). Essays on Conrad aside, she has written on Robert Browning, T.S. Eliot, G.B. Shaw, William Golding, Harold Pinter, and Jatinder Verma. She sits on the editorial boards of The Conradian, Conradiana and Yearbook of Conrad Studies.
