What happens to reading and writing when place, emotion, and materiality are just as important as the ability to write or to engage with a text? Caleb Pendygraft is associate professor of humanities at Massachusetts Maritime Academy. His work has appeared in Appalachian Journal, The Routledge Handbook of Queer Rhetoric, Bodies of Knowledge: Embodied Rhetorics in Theory and Practice, and Storytelling in Queer Appalachia: Imagining and Writing the Unspeakable Other.
