This CD-ROM incorporates and can be used in conjunction with David Wu's "Romanticism: An Anthology". It includes canonical versions of a number of poems printed in the anthology in their earliest versions. It provides not only primary literary texts, but also a selection of other important texts and materials based on editions published during the period. Much of this material is otherwise available only in archives or through expensive reprints of original editions: political documents; travel literature; contemporary scientific and medical documents; reviews from journals of the period; books for women and about women's education; writing on aesthetics; social history; and feminist writing. Hypertext links enable students and researchers to experience the intertextuality of writing during the period and to understand the cultural context in which the texts were created.
The CD-ROM contains approximately 1000 high-quality graphics, including: illustrations, prints and paintings of the Romantic period from archives and collections across Europe, Britain and the USA, with hypertext links to relevant literature and maps; scenes from gthe English Lake District, the Alps, and the ruins of Rome and Pompeii; photographcs of landscapes important to Romantic writers; and detailed maps of the travels of the Romantic writers. The CD-ROM is available for IBM and compatible mqachines (386 and above) using Windows 3.1 (and later versions), with SVGA screens and CD drives.
