Dr Andrew McDonnell is a writer of poetry and short fiction. His first book, The Somnambulist’s Cookbook, was published by Salt in 2019 and his work has appeared in anthologies and journals including Butcher’s Dog and Poetry London. He has an MA in Creative Writing from the University of East Anglia and a PhD from Anglia Ruskin University. Andrew is passionate about equitable access to arts education. He is a course leader in English Literature at University Centre Peterborough, and has taught Creative Writing at the University of East Anglia and for Norfolk Education Services. He founded The Public House and Norwich School of Creative Writing to support high quality adult education in the arts, and is Publisher at Gatehouse Press. He is currently writing a series of devotional poems about his experience of place and class. It is an attempt to find a spiritual place of the mundane, the everyday of working-class experience. The joy and the love. In 2022 he guest edited Issue 25 of Lighthouse Journal, themed around working class lives.
