Reinventer le Travail (Reinventing Work in Europe)
Academic Studies Press (Verlag)
979-8-88719-015-0 (ISBN)
Over the years the meaning of work has changed. It has become more highly diversified, and it is today invested with high expectations that conflict with organizational developments and the changing nature of the labour market. The authors use a generational perspective to explore whether it is possible to reconcile the contemporary “ethos” of work, especially with regards to women and young people, with organizations that are increasingly under pressure to be profitable and productive.
Reinventing Work in Europe will be of interest to scholars and students in the areas of sociology of work, employment and organizations, labour studies, digital economy and political economy.
After studying philosophy at the Ecole Normale Supérieure and public policy at the Ecole Nationale d'Administration, Dominique Méda is now a professor of sociology and director of the social science laboratory at Dauphine University. She is the author of numerous works on work (Le travail.Une valeur en voie de disparition?) and on economic policies (La Mystique de la croissance. How to break free; Another way is possible. Towards a social-ecological model). Patricia Vendramin is Professor of sociology at the University of Louvain-la-Neuve in Belgium. She is also President of the FOPES (Open Faculty in Social and economic Policies) and holder of the Chair “Labour-University”, both in the University of Louvain-la-Neuve. Her research interests and publications relate to work and employment issues and digital transition.
