Nicolae Iorga (1871-1940) was Romania's greatest historian. An internationally renowned scholar, he authored over 1,000 works and studies. Recognized as one of the leading authorities on the Byzantine Empire, Iorga convened the first-ever International Congress of Byzantine Studies in Bucharest in 1924.
