Taking authentic texts from a variety of sources - the human body on CD-ROM, a fish recipe, 'L'Etranger' and many others - this book uses them as a starting point for the illustration and explanation of key areas of French grammar. It includes a range of exercises, many of them text-based.
French Grammar in Context takes authentic texts from a rich variety of sources - newspaper and magazine articles, recipes, literary texts, customer information leaflets - and uses them as the starting point for the illustration and explanation of key areas of grammar, particularly those that cause difficulties for English speakers. With subject matter ranging from the human body on CD-ROM to a fish recipe from Elle, and Camus' "L'Etranger" - learners will find an engaging and authentic basis for their deepening understanding of grammar in practice. Each chapter deals with a key grammatical point by presenting a short text followed by a detailed explanation of the relevant grammar, together with a range of exercises to give students the opportunity to practice the grammatical point concerned. The exercises are based around a particular topic so that students can build their vocabulary at the same time as practicing the grammar, and the focus is on everyday words and expressions that learners are likely to use themselves. A key to the exercises is included at the back of the book. The new edition features new chapters on adverbs, adverbial phrases, nouns and word order.
It also contained enhanced exercises and review passages. The grammar covered in this lively and purposeful book stems from up-to-date authentic texts in a way which makes it accessible to any intermediate or advanced level student of French. - Professor Carol Sanders, University of Surrey, UK
