Few cities exist as clearly in the mind as Dublin, evoking as it does such powerful images which personify the spirit and consciousness of the whole nation. In 1988 Dublin celebrated its official millennium, although there were settlements on the city's site well before 988. The Traveller's History of Dublin traces chronologically the history of Molly Malone's 'fair city' from its earliest pre-Viking beginnings to the present day.
