This microfiche edition Constitutions of the World 1850 to the Present represents the most complete and comprehensive collection ever published of original full-text constitutions issued from the middle of the 19th century to the present, which aimed to provide legal foundations for countries, states, or communities of states. It contains historical constitutions that have long been replaced by new versions, as well as all the constitutions currently enforced throughout the world. The original constitutional texts - several thousand of them - are included as facsimile copies. English translations of the constitutions are also provided where available. The documents are chronologically listed in the country index and in the country sections themselves.

Following the publication of all European constitutional documents, the second part is dedicated to the constitutions of North and South America. It contains49 constitutions of North, Central and South American states (as well as those of the Caribbean). A total of approximately 1,800 constitutions published since 1850 have been gathered together from these countries. They include the independent constitutions of the nation states, the constitutions of the federal states, constitutional alterations and declarations of human rights. Each part includes a multi-lingual index of constitutions, listing all filmed documents complete with dates of resolution, coming into effect, publication and references to respective fiche numbers.

The constitutions are listed in the original language along with translations in English and German. Targeted research is facilitated by two guide books, the Index of European Constitutions 1850 to 2003 and the Index of North and South American Constitutions 1850 to 2007 , both provides with geographical, historical and chronological indexes.

Zum ersten Mal liegt für Europa ein Index aller Staatsverfassungen, einschließlich aller Bundes- und Gliedstaaten, für den Zeitraum von 1850 bis zur Gegenwart vor. Alle aktuellen und historischen Verfassungen samt ihrer Änderungen sowie alle nicht in Kraft getretenen Verfassungsentwürfe sind dokumentiert. Darüber hinaus dient der Band als Erschließungsinstrument der Mikrofiche-Edition Verfassungen der Welt 1850 bis zur Gegenwart, Teil 1: Europa, welche die Originaldokumente komplett im Volltext zur Verfügung stellt. Für jedes einzelne Land werden die Verfassungsdokumente, und -entwürfe sowie die Änderungen chronologisch aufgeführt und über ein länderübergreifendes Gesamtverzeichnis und ein "Register der Gliedstaaten" erschlossen. Eine wissenschaftliche Einleitung des Herausgebers, Benutzungshinweise und eine Bibliographie der Quellen vervollständigen den Band.
