In diesem Band veröffentlichen wir die Ergebnisse einer internationalen Tagung im Erbacher Hof zu Mainz, die dem Werk der aus Deutschland stammenden Kirchenlehrerin Hildegard von Bingen gewidmet war. Unter einer deutlich theologischen Fragestellung haben sich im März 2013 Gelehrte verschiedener Fächer (Theologen, Philosophen, Historiker, Medizinhistoriker, Musikwissenschaftler) zusammengefunden, um nach der Heiligsprechung Hildegards und ihrer Erhebung zur Kirchenlehrerin durch Papst Benedikt XVI. im Jahre 2012 einen neuen wissenschaftlichen Zugang zu Person und Werk zu öffnen. Es bleibt zu hoffen, daß die hier versammelten Beiträge ihren Lesern dazu verhelfen, die Auseinandersetzung mit den Schriften dieser bedeutendsten Autorin der Christenheit bis zum 12. Jahrhundert jeweils zu aktualisieren im Heute.

In questo volume vengono pubblicati i risultati delle giornate di studio tenutesi nel marzo 2013 presso lo Erbacher Hof di Magonza, dedicate all’opera di Ildegarda di Bingen, monaca tedesca e dottore della Chiesa. A questo giornate sono convenuti studiosi di diverse discipline (teologi, filosofi, storici, storici della medicina, musicologi), per affrontare, sotto un profilo teologico e con un approccio innovativo e scientifico, la figura di Ildegarda dopo la sua canonizzazione e proclamazione a dottore della chiesa da parte di papa Benedetto XVI. Non resta che sperare che i contributi qui raccolti possano aiutare i loro lettori ad attualizzare nel XXI secolo gli scritti, straordinariamente significativi, di questa figura della letteratura cristiana medievale.

In this volume, we publish the results of an international conference held at Erbacher Hof in Mainz devoted to the work of the German Doctor of the Church Hildegard von Bingen. Focussing on markedly theological aspects, in March 2013 scholars of various disciplines (theologians, philosophers, historians, medical historians, music historians) convened to discuss, after the canonisation of Hildegard and her elevation to the rank of Doctor of the Church by Pope Benedict XVI in 2012, new scientific approaches to her person and work. It is to be hoped that the contributions in this volume help readers to refresh their analyses of the writings of this most important female writer of Christianity up to the 12th century in the present.
