Wilhelm Herrmanns Stellung in der Ritschlschen Schule
Seiten
With his school of theology, Albrecht Ritschl defined German Protestant theology between 1875 and the First World War. His student, Adolf Harnack, was undoubtedly the most important academic theologian at the turn of the century and a pivotal figure in the general academic establishment. Dialectic theology, which broke away definitively from the generation of its teachers after 1914, was strongly influenced by the problems and solutions of the Ritschlians. The correspondence between the two scholars provides a deep insight into the formation of the Ritschlian school, into the conflicts concerning fundamental theology between the various schools in German Protestant theology in the German Empire and into the biography and the theological career of the young Harnack, a subject about which little has been written up to now.
