A short and vivid biography of one of the least known members of one of the most famous outlaw gangs in Western history that includes never-before-published archival materials.
Those interested in the history of the infamous Younger Brothers of Missouri know eldest brother Cole’s story. Or at least they think they do. Cole told it enough times. Yet his autobiography, his dozens of interviews, the stories told to his friends and family members unfortunately tell a story quite different from researched history of the same times and events. John and Bob died young and never had the opportunity to tell their side of it all. And brother Jim remained silent. Until now.

Tortured Soul: Jim Younger in His Own Words finally reveals Jim’s memories, thoughts and opinions. Although Jim’s recollections also are mired in selective memories and a certain distortion brought about the passage of time, a damaged psyche and a need to protect himself and those he loved, the story Jim tells is based in his history and his desire to set Cole’s lies in their proper perspective.

Marley Brant is the author of nine books, both fiction and non-fiction. Her books have been featured in People Magazine, the New York Times and numerous newspapers, been the basis for television programs on A&E and VH1, and served as the primary research for hours of television on the History Channel, PBS, TBS and CMT. Brant was the co-creator and co-producer of the TBS special Outlaws, Rebels and Rogues. Brant has been employed in the entertainment industry as a biographical writer, music and television producer, publicist and development executive. She is the author of eight non-fiction books about outlaws, television and rock music. Brant’s books The Outlaw Youngers: A Confederate Brotherhood and Jesse James: The Man and the Myth were both recognized with the Milton F. Perry Award for extensive research and contribution to American History.
