Narrated by Nigel Havers, this video presents re-enactments of military episodes in British history, to demonstrate the development of armour, uniforms, weapons and battle tactics of armies through the ages. The re-enactments were filmed at a two-day festival at Kirby Hall in June 1996, and featured 1000 members of 30 societies. The events depicted include Romans, Saxons and Vikings, 15th-century men-at-arms, the English and American Civil Wars, 18th- and early-19th-century Redcoats, Victorian riflemen and lancers, British soldiers of 1914, and a World War II battle.
