Dieser Band ist den psychologischen und theologischen Grundlagen der Seelsorge, der Erörterung ihrer therapeutischen und religiösen Dimension sowie der Entfaltung einer interdisziplinären Praxis gewidmet. Neben den Monographien Angst und Glaube sowie Das Leib-Seele-Problem in theologischer Sicht (Teil I und II) werden 18 Einzelbeiträge Haendlers neu bzw. erstmals ediert, eingeleitet und kommentiert. Teil III spiegelt Haendlers Einfluss auf die Prämissen und Perspektiven der Poimenik wider; Teil IV erörtert spezielle theoretische und praktische Fragen. Haendler entwickelt seine Seelsorgelehre im intensiven Dialog u. a. mit theologischen und psychologischen Konzeptionen seiner Zeit, so dass dieser Band auch zur Spurensicherung des entsprechenden Diskurses im 20. Jahrhundert beiträgt.

Volume 3 of Otto Haendler's Writings and Lectures on Practical Theology is dedicated to the psychological and theological foundations of pastoral care, the discussion of its therapeutic and religious dimensions, and the development of interdisciplinary practice. In addition to the community related theological-pastoral writings "Fear and Faith" (Part I) and "The Mind-Body Problem from a Theological Point of View" (Part II), 18 individual contributions by Haendler, which argue in pastoral terms, are newly edited or edited for the first time, introduced and commented on in the context of their reception. Part III deals with Haendler's influence on the premises and perspectives of pastoral care, Part IV with more specific theoretical and concrete practical questions.
Since Haendler has throughout his life endeavoured to develop a theologically and psychologically convergent pastoral doctrine, this volume is also a contribution to the documentation of the corresponding discourse in the 20th century.
