For this reason, tekom, with a team of over 20 experts from all relevant sectors, has drawn up a guideline that provides greater clarity on this issue. This guideline has now also been published in English.
In this guideline, tekom illustrates the current state of the art in the field of delivery of information for use in electronic form. The guideline looks at the current legal requirements regarding the form of delivery, shows an approach to creating a media concept based on use cases, and considers legal requirements.
Contents of the tekom guideline:
– Reasons for reducing instructions for use in paper form
– Legal requirements: Under which circumstances is paper legally required?
– Framework, advantages and disadvantages of delivering instructions for use in paper form or in electronic form
– Creation of a media concept based on use cases
– Recommended actions, in particular with regard to achieving legal compliance in critical cases
– References (European directives and regulations, standards)
Roland Schmeling, Dipl.-Phys., ist Geschäftsführer des Beratungsunternehmens SCHMELING + CONSULTANTS in Heidelberg. Seit 1999 berät er Unternehmen im Bereich Technische Kommunikation und Dokumentation. Zuvor studierte er Physik und analytische Philosophie. Für die tekom ist er an verschiedenen Arbeitsgruppen, Gremien und Veröffentlichungen beteiligt. Als Mitglied des tekom-Normenbeirats arbeitete er auf nationaler und internationaler Ebene an der IEC 82079-1 mit. Seit 2004 lehrt er Qualitätssicherung an der Hochschule Furtwangen University. Als Auditor und Fachzertifizierer des TÜV SÜD prüft und auditiert er Dokumentationen und Redaktionsprozesse nach DocCert.
Jens-Uwe Heuer-James ist Rechtsanwalt und Partner der Luther Rechtsanwaltsgesellschaft mit dem Spezialgebiet Produktsicherheits- und Produkthaftungsrecht. Er verantwortet den tekom-Rechtsdienst und engagiert sich darüber hinaus beim tekom-Beirat Normen und dem tekom Europe Advisory Board Legislation and Standards.
He studied Political Science and English Language and Literature at the University of Mannheim, earning a degree as a Business Economist (VWA) with focus on marketing. After being active as a manager of an educational institution and experience in various associations, CEO of tekom Deutschland since 1996. Since 2001, also CEO of tcworld GmbH, and since 2013, also CEO of the European Association for Technical Communication – tekom Europe e.V.
Dr. Viktoria Klemm ist Leiterin der Technischen Dokumentation und des Übersetzungsmanagements bei der BAUR Prüf- und Messtechnik GmbH. Seit 14 Jahren im Bereich der Technischen Kommunikation tätig, mit den Schwerpunkten Konzeption, Strukturiertes Schreiben und Lokalisierung. 2005 Promotion im Fachbereich Sprach-, Literatur- und Medienwissenschaft an der Universität Hamburg. Staatlich anerkannte Übersetzerin.
Dr. Claudia Michaela Klumpp, geb. 1975, Studium der Rechtswissenschaften an der Universität Tübingen. Von 2006 bis 2012 Rechtsanwältin und Rechtsberaterin in Stuttgart. Nach dem Abschluss als Betriebswirtin an der Württembergischen Verwaltungs- und Wirtschaftsakademie seit 2013 bei der tekom Referentin für Normen.
"Matthias Schulz is a Certified Translator for Engineering in the English language. Since 1992, Schulz has been deeply involved with the EC Machinery Directive and all areas of CE marking. He has published various guides and specialist publications since 1991 on formulating and designing safety notes and warning messages, operating instructions, performance of risk assessments, text comprehensibility and terminology management. Schulz is currently active as an advisor for safety engineering in mechanical and systems engineering, as well as for the preparation and optimization of safety-related information in instruction manuals.
