The volume presents four older studies on everyday life in early Lübeck, namely papers on Medieval and Early Modern toys from Lübeck [Oltmanns 1996], on archaeological finds of tiles for tiled stoves of the 12th to 17th century from some 240 sites in the historic city centre [Harnack 1995], on 175 clay pipes from two excavation sites in Lübeck [Weidner 1997], and on 110 Early Modern lead seals from the old city centre [Scheuerer 1996]. While the toys document the significance of and attention paid to childhood in Medieval Lübeck, the stove tiles attest a raised standard of living in the residential and economic buildings of the old town centre, where both monasteries and domestic architecture possessed comfortable heating systems with artistically decorated relief tiles often reflecting the political and religious convictions of their orderers. The lead seals from woven fabrics attest Lübeck’s importance as an emporium and allow the determination of brand labels and places of origin from ca. A.D. 1250 onwards. Clay pipes were mass products of the 16th to 18th century in the context of a temporary fashion of the consumption of modern stimulants. Der Band präsentiert vier schon länger abgeschlossene Untersuchungen zum Alltag des alten Lübecks. Es handelt sich um Aufsätze zu mittelalterlichem und frühneuzeitlichem Spielzeug aus Lübeck [Oltmanns 1996], archäologischen Funden von Ofenkacheln des 12. bis 17. Jh. von ca. 240 Fundstellen in der Altstadt [Harnack 1995], 175 Tonpfeifen aus zwei Lübecker Grabungen [Weidner 1997] und 110 Bleiplomben der frühen Neuzeit aus der Lübecker Altstadt [Scheuerer 1996]. Während die Spielzeugfunde Stellenwert und Beachtung der Kindheit im mittelalterlichen Lübeck anzeigen, erweisen die Ofenkacheln einen gehobenen Lebensstandard in den Wohn- und Geschäftshäusern der Altstadt, wo Klöster wie Bürgerhäuser komfortable Heizsysteme besaßen, deren Reliefkacheln künstlerisch gestaltet wurden und oft die politische und religiöse Überzeugung der Auftraggeber widerspiegeln. Die Tuchplomben erweisen Lübeck als bedeutenden Handelsplatz und erlauben die Bestimmung von Warenmarkierungen und Herkunftsorten seit ca. 1250. Bei den Tonpfeifen handelte es sich um Massenprodukte im Rahmen einer Modeerscheinung des Konsums neuerer Genußmittel im 16.-18. Jh.
