Philipp Melanchthons »Loci praecipui theologici« in der Letztfassung von 1559 sind die reife Summe seines theologischen Schaffens. Gemeinsam mit der »Institutio« Johannes Calvins sind sie die wirkmächtigste reformatorische Dogmatik. Sie liegen nun erstmals ins Deutsche übersetzt in einer lateinisch-deutschen Ausgabe im ersten Teilband vor.
Die philologische Seite der Übersetzung lag bei dem Basler Altphilologen Peter Litwan unter Assistenz der Altphilologin Florence Becher-Häusermann. Die theologische Redaktion hatte Sven Grosse, Professor für Historische und Systematische Theologie an der Staatsunabhängigen Theologischen Hochschule Basel. Die Ausgabe ist auf zwei Bände angelegt.

Philipp Melanchthon's »Loci praecipui theologici«, in the final edition of 1559, are his mature theological opus magnum, and together with Calvin's »Institutio« they are the most influential dogmatics of the reformation. This book represents the first translation of the text in a Latin-German edition. The philological work was done by Basel classical philologist Peter Litwan, assisted by classical philologist Florence Becher-Häusermann. The theolocial editorial was done by Sven Grosse, professor of Historical and Systematic Theology at Staatsunabhängige Theologische Hochschule Basel. The edition is planned in two volumes.

Philipp Melanchthon ist am 16. Februar 1497 geboren und am 19. April 1560 gestorben. Zweiundvierzig Jahre lang war er Professor in Wittenberg und enger Mtarbeiter und Freund Martin Luthers. Er war ein unentbehrlicher Ratgeber bei der Übersetzung der Bibel und bei der Neuordnung von Kirche und Schulwesen. Aus seiner Feder stammt das "Augsburger Bekenntnis", das heute noch eine Grundlage des evangelischen Glaubens ist.
