Sensory issues are a challenge for many children and their caregivers. In this picture book, Hartley Steiner shows the experience of Sensory Processing Disorders from the point of view of the child, bringing awareness to how they feel in the moment through humour and giving adults the opportunity to view the situation from the child’s perspective.
Sensory issues are a difficult challenge for many children and their caregivers. In this picture book, Hartley Steiner shows the experience of Sensory Processing Disorders (SPD) from the point of view of the child, bringing awareness to how they feel in the moment through humor and giving adults the rare opportunity to view the situation from the child’s perspective. Children will be introduced to ways they can begin to ask for and accept help, and adults will learn how to scale reactions during situations of upset. This book covers a large range of situations addressed and resolved. In each scenario the child is having a big reaction, and the adult is able to solve the issue through simple answers, compassion, and humor.

Hartley Steiner is the author of the book Sensational Journeys, the founder of the SPD Blogger Network (www.spdbloggernetwork.com), and a contributing writer for the SPD Foundation’s blog, S.I. Focus magazine, and Autism Spectrum Quarterly. The mother of three boys, you can find her chronicling the never-ending chaos that is her life on her blog, Hartley’s Life with 3 Boys (www.hartleysboys.com), and on Twitter as @ParentingSPD. When she isn’t writing or dealing with a meltdown, she enjoys spending time in the company of other adults—preferably with good food and even better wine. She lives near Seattle, Washington. Anait Semirdzhyan, an illustrator, lives in Seattle, Washington with her husband, twins, and a shaggy Labradoodle.
