This book is devoted to a study of the evolution of normative Judaism from the time of Ezra (ca. 400 B.C.) to Judah I, the Prince (ca. 200 A.D.). Alexander Guttmann is professor of Talmud and Rabbinics at Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion, Cincinnati. He attended the University of Budapest, the University of Berlin, the Jewish Theological Seminary of Budapest, and received his Ph.D. from the University of Breslau. Professor Guttmann has published articles in the Hebrew Union College Annual and the Jewish Quarterly Review.
