This study traces the development of Jeremiah 10:1-16, a passage that, it is argued, draws upon a diverse body of traditional material—hymns, satire, wisdom, cultic texts, and polemic—in order to craft a new message for the prophet’s immediate audience. Particular attention is devoted to the inner workings of the process of textual development itself and how it has shaped the development of this literature and the language that it used.
