Siria Guzzo holds a PhD in English Linguistics, and is a tenured Senior Lecturer in English Language and Linguistics at the University of Salerno, Italy. She has conducted research and published in the fields of sociolinguistics and language variation and change, concentrating on migration and its effects on identity, new dialect and ethnolect formation, language contact and its outcomes, and first and second language acquisition. Her publications include wide-ranging investigations on the Anglo-Italian community in the UK, and a volume on the newly-emerging Cook Island variety of English. Last but not least, she is the author of "A Sociolinguistic Insight into the Italian Community in the UK: the Workplace Language as Identity Marker" (2014).David Britain holds the Chair of Modern English Linguistics at the University of Bern, Switzerland. He is Associate Editor of the Journal of Sociolinguistics, co-author of Linguistics: An Introduction (2009) (with Andrew Radford, Martin Atkinson, Harald Clahsen and Andrew Spencer) and Social Dialectology (2003), and the editor of Language in the British Isles (2007). He also co-edited a special issue of the International Journal of the Sociology of Language on dialect death in Europe, published in 2009.
