Nearly every aspect of ancient Egyptian society was influenced by religion. Through the study of 494 votive stelae from Ramesside Egypt, this study demonstrates that there was not a deep divide between temple-based religious practice and personal religiosity. Religious practice was, in fact, appropriated by individuals at the local level and used as the primary venue to display social networks, economic capital and societal rank.
