Her previous books include Medical Education in the Age of Improvement: Edinburgh Students and Apprentices 1760–1826 (1991) and The Most Beautiful Man in Existence: The Scandalous Life of Alexander Lesassier (1999). John Theibault has taught at the University of Oregon, Princeton University, and Loyola College of Maryland. He is the author of German Villages in Crisis: Rural Life in Hesse-Kassel and the Thirty Years’ War, 1580–1720 (1995).
