In 1869, Everett B. D. Julio painted this scene of the Civil War generals and their horses. It depicts their meeting on May 1, 1863, just before the tragic death of Jackson.
Everett Julio was a portrait, historical, landscape, and genre painter, art teacher, and art dealer who received his formal education in Paris with Leon Bonnat, who was considered the best colorist of the modern French artists. It was this, his most historical painting, that brought him national fame.
