Assembled in this volume are descriptions of many memorable places, people and events from Savannah's first 100 years. Beginning with the story of Savannah's founding as the first city in ""The Colony of Georgia in America"" the authors lead the reader through ten ""watches"", detailing accounts that reflect Savannah's importance as a seaport. They also describe numerous landmark events in the city's history from the Battle of Bloody Marsh to the first nationally celebrated Thanksgiving Day. Offering year-by-year accounts that range from details of political assemblies and the development of Savannah's newspapers to news of smallpox epidemics and the cotton trade, this book is a record of Savannah's early history and culture.
