This is a digitized and animated version of the Lindisfarne manuscripts, enabling the reader to turn the electronic pages in real time. 25 pages from the Gospels, plus the decorated and jewelled binding, have been digitized including the most highly decorated pages of the four Gospels.
The Lindisfarne Gospels is one of Britain's greatest artistic treasures and the outstanding example of Anglo-Saxon book painting. Twenty-five of the most highly decorated pages from the Lindisfarne Gospels are featured on this CD-ROM, plus the jewelled binding, and all have zoom facilities and accompanying text. The user clicks and drags the mouse to turn the pages of the manuscript in real time. Janet Backhouse, former Curator of Illuminated Manuscripts at the British Library, describes the Gospels and their history, in an accompanying essay from her book "The Lindisfarne Gospels".
