John Bewick was one of the earliest designer-engravers in England. This title draws on correspondence and Bewick's ledger to examine Bewick's artistic legacy. It is intended as a contribution to the history of children's books and popular art in the late-18th century.

Nigel Tattersfield's book draws on largely unpublished correspondence, John Bewick's own ledger, and the collection of Bweick material in the British Museum.
