This source publication of halakhic and agadic commentaries in Talmud and Midrash on the Book of Ester provides German translations of rabbinical texts to Purim. All translations make visible the flow of argumentation, the structure of the texts and parallal passages within rabbinical literatur.
Vol. 1 of the "Rabbinical Commentaries on the Book of Ester" provides the German translations of the halakhic texts on Purim: The biblical book of Ester and tractate Megilla in Mishna, Tosefta and in Talmud Bavli.
Vol. 2 contains the Midrashim on Ester: Panim Acherim A and B, Midrash Megillat Ester, Pirqe deRabbi Elieser, chap. 49-50, Midrash Megilla, Leqah Tov and Jalqut Shimoni on Ester, Midrash Abba Gurion, Ester Rabba, Sefer Josippon, chap. 9 and Midrash Psalm 22.

Dagmar Börner-Klein, Ph.D. (1990) in Jewish Studies, University of Vienna, is Professor of Jewish Studies at the Gerhard Mercator University, Duisburg (Germany). She has published on literary structures of rabbinical texts in Talmud Bavli and the halakhic Midrashim. Elisabeth Hollender, Ph.D. (1993) in Jewish Studies, University of Cologne, holds a research position at the Gerhard Mercator University, Duisburg (Germany).
