Summarises an approach commonly used by Speech and language Therapists in practice and research.
The 'Cognitive Neuropsychological Model: bridging the gap' poster summarises an approach commonly used by Speech and language Therapists in practice and research. The poster is the first useful, visual published resource of its kind, presenting information with otherwise is only accessible via books. The poster has the potential to facilitate hypothesis testing to identify patients' communication difficulties, in order to offer advice and plan the most effective therapy. At a glance, SLTs can: see which assessment would be most relevant to find out the extent of breakdown at a particular level of the language processing system; assist with teaching SLT students and newly qualified SLTs who might otherwise perceive the model to be over-complex and time consuming and under-use it. You can identity relative strengths which may lead to the development of compensatory strategies and more effective communication. "I am not alone in thinking that such a tool is long overdue and has wide ranging applications whether it is to inform assessment or therapy, to support student learning or to aid explanation to clients about the nature of their difficulty."
