Söderblom's thoughts concerning religious pluralism and ecumenism are today falling on fertile soil. Dietz Lange's collection and translation of a number of texts has also served this purpose.Nathan Söderblom (1866-1931) was an important religious scholar, theologian, Archbishop of the Swedish Church and one of the Founding Fathers of the Ecumenical movement, in particularly at the Stockholm Conference of 1925. In his day age and since he has proved to be an important influence both in Sweden and elsewhere.Today, under very different intellectual and social circumstances, his farsighted views on the problems of religious pluralism and ecumenism have come to fruition. Lange's choice of texts guarantees the proper representation of the main thrust of Söderblom's literary production.

Aus dem Schwedischen übersetzt von Dietz Lange
Quite a few of Nathan Söderblom`s (1866-1931) most important works have never been translated from the original Swedish. That is why so many of his seminal ideas on religious pluralism and ecumenicity, but also on basic tenets of Christian theology are virtually unknown today. That is a deplorable fact, since this great historian of religion and church leader was exceptionally far-sighted in his analyses of religion in modern times. The theological as well as political developments having subsided that had diminished his influence in the decades following his death, the time has come to reopen the trove of his thought. So this 3-volume selection makes an attempt at relieving some of Söderblom's classics from their linguistic isolation by making them accessible to the German-speaking public. This is done in the hope that corresponding translations into other major languages will follow.
