Arguing that the ideology of integration that emerged was highly conservative, apologetic, and harmful to the African American community, this book is sure to provide a new lens for studying - and learning from - American race relations in the twentieth century.

Gary Peller is Professor of Law at Georgetown University, where he has taught courses in Contracts, Constitutional Law, Criminal Procedure, and Jurisprudence. His writings and research are primarily in the field of legal theory and legal history.
