This 38 x 26-inch full-color poster serves as a quick reference and study guide for the classroom or for anyone with an interest in Confederate history. In addition to its centrally placed map of Confederate Virginia, it includes photos of the state's three generals, four lieutenant generals, four major generals, 20 Virginia Military Institute alumni and faculty general officers, and 66 commanders. Also pictured are 23 important Civil War sites that can be visited today, such as the Stonewall Jackson Cemetery in Lexington and the Confederate Whitehouse in Richmond. Positioned only 100 miles south of Washington, D.C., the area of Richmond, Virginia, quickly became one of the focal points of the battles between Robert E. Lee's army and that of Ulysses S. Grant. The poster's center map details the battles of Virginia and clearly shows that the area between these two cities was of great interest to the two opposing generals.

Daryl Hutchinson received a Technical Illustration Award from Macworld magazine and has worked as a senior designer for Ford Motor Company, a creative director for the Tampa (FL) Tribune, and an illustrator and designer at Super Duper Publications, a publisher of children's educational products. His artistic endeavors range from creating interactive CDs to traditional pen and ink illustrations. A member of his local Sons of Confederate Veterans camp, he explains that his goal as an author is "to create a wider understanding of the South and to perpetuate the memory of our Confederate ancestors" through his artwork. Hutchinson lives in Travelers Rest, South Carolina.
