It is divided into two parts: (i) the first part provides an overview of the most important features related to properties, analysis and design of GFRP pultruded components used in bridges; (ii) the second part presents several detailed case studies concerning the construction and rehabilitation of both pedestrian and vehicular bridges incorporating GFRP components.
This text is aimed at structural engineers in general and bridge designers in particular, who are looking for the most relevant information related to the structural use of innovative GFRP components, more specifically in bridge construction and rehabilitation. It can be used as a reference in advanced courses related to structural and bridge engineering, and should also be of interest to bridge authorities dealing with the present need to rehabilitate increasingly degraded infrastructure made of traditional materials.
Joao R. Correia Assistant Professor of Civil Engineering at Instituto Superior Tecnico and Technical University of Lisbon. He won the International Association for Bridge and Structural Engineering Prize in 2012 and the `Outstanding Young Engineer Contribution Award' at the 2007 IABSE Weimar Symposium. Fernando A. Branco is Full Professor and Head of the Construction Section at Instituto Superior Tecnico, Lisbon. He is President of the Portuguese Association of Structural Engineers, President of the European Council of Civil Engineers, and Vice-President of the International Association for Bridge and Structural Engineering.
