This book introduces the "physical layer" of digital communication at the level of the practicing design engineer, in a measured and teaching-oriented format. It delivers first-time coverage of important topics such as synchronization of radio signals and networks and the physical reality of radio and mobile channels. A complete set of homework and computer exercises are also included. DIGITAL TRANSMISSION ENGINEERING provides complete and balanced coverage of the entire communication system in a user-friendly format. It will enable the reader with important software tools and the ability to perform real communication system design.
About the Author John B. Anderson is professor of electrical engineering at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Troy, New York. He has held visiting appointments at the University of California, Berkeley, Queen's University, Canada, the Technical University of Munich, and Chalmers and Lund Technical Universities in Sweden. Dr. Anderson has also served as a consultant in the communication field to a number of companies and government departments. Dr. Anderson was president of the IEEE Information Theory Society in 1985 and was the editor-in-chief of IEEE Press in 1994 1996. He is a coauthor of three other books: Digital Phase Modulation (Plenum, 1986), Modern Electrical Communication (Prentice Hall, 1988), and Source and Channel Coding (Kluwer, 1991). Dr. Anderson received the Humboldt Research Prize in 1991. He is a Fellow of the IEEE.
