Proceedings of the NATO Advanced Research Workshop, held in St. Petersburg, Russia, 13-16 June 2002
This volume of NATO Science Series presents the Proceedings of the NATO Advances Research Workshop "Optical Properties of 2D systems with interacting electrons" which was held at the Educational Centerofthe Ioffe Physico-Technical Institute in the period of June 13-16, 2002. More than 40 scientists from 14 countries participated and gave 24 lectures and 16 poster presentations. The main goal of theWorkshop was to bring togetherleading scientists working in the field of optical properties of correlated electron systems in semiconductor nanostructures and to organize a vital and informal discussions of newest results in the field. The location and the format of the Workshop provided an atmosphere of friendly and fruitful communications. It is important to note that the Workshop continued a series of meetings con- cerning the same topic: Warsaw 1999, Wurzburg 2000 (NATO ARW), and Berlin 2001.
The subject agenda of the ARW was focused on the following topics: Evolution of optical spectra from the excitonic peaks to the Fermi-edge singularity Negatively and positively charged excitons Reconstruction ofone-particle and collective excitation spectra with increase of the electron density (combined exciton-cyclotron resonance and shake-up processes) Effect of spatial inhomogeneity on the carrier interaction in nanostructures Spin-sensitive interaction and spin-spin interaction in confined systems Many-particle effects in semimagnetic semiconductor heterostructures.

Cyclotron resonance of composite fermions.- Collective behavior of interwell excitons in GaAs/AlGaAs double quantum wells.- Internal transitions of negatively charged excitons and many-electron effects in GaAs quantum wells.- Positively and negatively charged trions in ZnSe-based quantum wells.- Non-linear effects on the spin dynamics of polaritons in II-VI microcavities.- Spin dynamics of neutral and charged excitons in InAs/GaAs quantum dots.- Novel many-body procedure for interacting close-to-boson excitons.- Density-matrix theory of trionic spectra in semiconductor nanostructures.- Correlation between trion and hole in Fermi distribution in process of trion photo-excitation in doped QWs.- Combined exciton-electron optical processes in optical spectra of modulation doped QWs.- II-VI quantum wells with high carrier densities and in high magnetic fields.- Magneto-optics of inhomogeneous two-dimensional electron gas.- Filling factor dependence of optical spectra for CdTe quantum wells under magnetic field.- Cluster meanfield approximation for the optical response of weakly doped semiconductor quantum wells.- D’yakonov-Perel’s spin relaxation under electron-electron collisions in QWs.- Evolution of the 2DEG-free hole to charged exciton photoluminescence in GaAs/AlGaAs quantum wells.- Radiative decay, diffusion, localization and dephasing of trions and excitons in CdTe quantum wells.- Optical studies of spin polarized 2DEG in modulation-doped (Zn,Mn)Se/(Zn,Be)Se quantum wells in high magnetic fields.- Fine structure of excitons in quantum wires.- Electromagnetic field resonance in semiconductor nanocrystals.- Co-manifestation of interfaces asymmetry and magnetic field influence on luminescence polarization anisotropy of [100]-oriented QW with semimagnetic barriers.-Model of strongly correlated 2D Fermi liquids based on fermion-condensation quantum phase transition.- The heavy-hole X+ trion in double quantum wells.- Contributors.
