All of us who have experienced God’s call in our lives can relate to different callings at different stages of our walk with God in the Kingdom. Today we will discover that there are different callings within the Kingdom, and how wonderful it is when we are open and receptive to these divine callings! Maybe you have not recognized all of them in your life yet, and may today bring you more light and revelation so that you will not only discover but also adhere to and answer the callings of God for your life on earth.
You have a purpose and destiny to fulfil, there are callings on your life, and you have destiny scrolls written over your life that are kept in the throne room of heaven. There are mandates, assignments and works that God has prepared for you, waiting for you to step into them!
Many believers do not yet experience the full package of a Kingdom-life on earth, which God has prepared for them in His wisdom. Yet because of a lack of knowledge and understanding, the distractions of life and other challenges that choke their progress on their Kingdom path, they have not taken up that which is already available to them. Once we have heard the call of God to a higher and more fulfilled life of abundance, obeyed His voice and started tasting the goodness of God as we embark on this Kingdom journey, we will never look back! We need to get out of the blocks and run the race set before us. The enemy of our souls, the devil, will try his best to keep us back and ignorant of the life on earth that Jesus Christ made available to us.
Different Kingdom Callings
What are the different divine callings for my life in the Kingdom of God? Life in the Kingdom of God always has something to do with God calling the person or a nation to a specific task or assignment, or lifestyle. Throughout Scripture, we can study the lives of any great man or woman of God, where their legacy was preceded by a call from God.
For example, the prophet Isaiah heard the voice of God and the call:

“Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send? And who will go for Us? Then said I, Here am I; send me.”
A very close friend, colleague and mentor of mine for many years, Dr Francois Engelbrecht, wrote this about the definition of God’s calling in his book, “Releasing your Divine Call”, in the following way:
A calling is God’s invitation to carry out the unique task He has for you – the reason why He created you in this time and season on earth.
A calling is God’s invitation for you to work on His agenda, using the talents He has given you in eternally significant ways.
A calling is a truth that God calls us to Himself so decisively that everything we are, everything we do, and everything we have is invested with a special devotion and dynamism lived out as a response to His summons and service.[1]
Let us look closely at different callings that you might have heard of already, coming prominently to you at this time. God wants to encounter you wonderfully and thereby release you into a life-fulfilling destiny and purpose:
1. The call to REPENTANCE.
Matthew 9:13 (AMPC)
“For I came not to call and invite (to repentance) the righteous (those who are upright and in right standing with God), but sinners (erring ones and all those not free from sin).”
This is the first call anyone will hear in their lives, as it is the call of God that will bring you into His Kingdom. You cannot experience the Kingdom of God if you have not entered it, and this is the entrance call to God’s Kingdom. Just as a human body cannot live in the natural world unless he/she has been birthed into it, a spirit man cannot live in God’s world unless there is a spiritual birth in the Kingdom of God.
The way to enter the Kingdom of God is by rebirth only! There is no other way of living and experiencing the Kingdom of God other than by being birthed into the Kingdom. Jesus very clearly taught that no one could come to the Father but by Him. He also proclaimed that He is the Door that leads to life in the Kingdom of God. (See John 10:9)
This is exactly what Jesus explained to Nicodemus in John 3 about being born again. Without it, kingdom life is only a theory with carnal understanding, even for highly intelligent people. You only learn by growing up in the world how things work, where all your senses are activated.
The same is true about the realm of the spirit, where experiential knowledge preceded by revelation and interpretation gives you the Kingdom of God encounter. Experiential knowledge can also follow revelation and interpretation when you apply what was revealed, and life in the Kingdom becomes a reality. (See John 3:3-5)
2. The call to INTIMACY.
Mark 3:14 (AMPC)
“And He went up on the hillside and called to Him (for Himself) those whom He wanted and chose, and they came to Him. And He appointed twelve to continue to be with Him, and that He might send them out to preach (as apostles and special messengers).”
To BE with Him…God desires that we spend time in His presence daily, so that we might be filled with His Spirit, His will, His purpose, His divine plans and instructions, to lead a God-presence life on earth every day! Just as God called Adam and Eve in the garden to walk with them and fellowship, God is calling us to times of intimacy with Him, so that we might experience Him in greater measures and our lives being enriched with Him.
3. The call to KINGDOM LIFE.
1 Thessalonians 2:12 (AMPC)
“To live lives worthy of God, Who calls you into His own Kingdom and the glorious blessedness (into which true believers will enter after Christ’s return).”
The Kingdom lifestyle is quite different to the worldly lifestyle, with different values, and different purposes. God is calling us to live the life that Jesus introduced, whereby we manifest the Kingdom of God's values and principles on earth. He is constantly calling us through His Spirit to live the life of the Kingdom.
God would never call us to live a different lifestyle on earth as to what is the standard in His Kingdom. That is the life that Jesus modelled and introduced to His disciples, so that they essentially us, can live and manifest the life that He demonstrated as an example.
This is the attitude that we should have, that we follow in His footsteps. Then and then only are we true followers of Christ, true disciples, true ambassadors of His Kingdom. God is calling us to this lifestyle…there is no other.
4. The call to PURPOSE.
Philippians 3:14 (AMPC)
“But one thing I do (it is my one aspiration): forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the (supreme and heavenly) prize to which God in Christ Jesus is calling us upward.”
This call from God will always be to a higher purpose than we might think or aim for. God calls us higher, further, and deeper. The aim is to reach the goal of what He has planned for us, to reach destiny, our God-given purpose in life. When we have reached the ultimate goal in Christ, we have answered the call.
Jesus Christ is the ultimate example when He exclaimed “It is finished!” (See John 9:29-30). He answered the call of His Father to purpose, His purpose for earth. Even the apostle Paul when he wrote to Timothy, declared that he had finished the race well, and fulfilled what God had called him to do. (See 2 Tim.4:7)
I strongly believe that life satisfaction can only be truly achieved when one’s life purpose has been fulfilled. There will be a sense of satisfaction while we are living up to the calling of God, during the race, on our journey. When we do the will of the Father in obeying the voice of the Spirit, we will have joy and peace, as those are signs that we are living in the Kingdom of God.
