Barry Scrapyard in the Late 1970s and Early 1980s is a fond photographic tribute to this iconic part of Britain's railway history.
Growing up in north-west London in the 1950s and living alongside a busy freight line, the seed for steam fascination was firmly planted in a young Geoff's head. Later in life he was able to visit Barry Scrapyard and recorded the locos seen over a seven-year period from 1977 to 1983. He then went back in the early 1990s to photograph every last remaining locomotive.
Those holiday stop-offs at that famous scrapyard created a photographic record of a unique place, now long-gone.

Geoff Barker is a broadcaster and musician who grew up in the 1950s alongside a busy north-west London freight line. Steam railways have always been a part of his life and the Barry Island Scrapyard soon became family folklore. Geoff now lives in rural France. David Holland is a self-employed business owner. He is a fan of heritage railways, and enjoys exploring archives of slides, photographs and data. David and his wife live in Dorset.
