This book provides insights into the ideas of dynamics and their control for those with a background in secondary education only. Control is not celebrated as a science and yet it is important. It has enabled high quality telephony, the creation of comfortable passenger jets and reusable space rockets.
This captivating book delves deep into the uncharted territory of 'control science,' revealing its pivotal role as the unsung hero behind the technological wonders of our age. From the cars we drive to the gadgets we can't live without, from power networks to personal computers, from aircraft to smartphones, robots to social media—the driving force behind them all is control science.

Embark on a journey into the visionary minds of Norbert Wiener and his fellow scientists as they conceived a groundbreaking idea in the 1940s—a new science poised to revolutionize our world. Their vision sought to unravel the intricate dance of 'control and communication in animals and machines.'

In 1947, the first transistor saw the light of day, a technological marvel that would take three decades to unleash its transformative power through the marvel of microchips. Little did Wiener and his contemporaries know that their brainchild, Cybernetics, would become the catalyst for a wave of innovation beyond their wildest dreams. Often hailed as an independent science, Cybernetics has ushered in a new era, one that even Wiener could not have foreseen. Its far-reaching impact on feedback control, communication, and artificial intelligence has reshaped the fabric of our lives.

Discover the compelling narrative that unravels the mathematical foundations underpinning these life-altering technologies. The precise results of mathematics have given birth to what we now recognize as 'control science,' solidifying our place in the 'age of control' in the 21st century. Embark on this eye-opening journey that will forever change the way you perceive the world around you. Welcome to the dawn of a new era, where control is the true economic driver, and its influence knows no bounds.

Professor Sandor M Veres is a mathematician turned control engineer. He has lectured and carried out research at three universities: Birmingham, Southampton and Sheffield. During his 34 year academic career, he has worked on: modelling of uncertain dynamics, adaptive and learning control systems, synergies of dynamical modelling and control, vibration and sound control, satellite formation flying, the safety of long range underwater vehicles, situational awareness of autonomous aircraft, cooperative control in robot teams, reconfigurable autonomous systems with application in nuclear robotics, verifiable architectures for robot decision in safety critical environments and lately on autonomous robots for nuclear material handling.
