The Civil Engineering Standard Method of Measurement (CESMM) is the standard used in most areas of civil engineering work for the preparation of bills of quantities. The 26 classes of the CESMM provide a systematic and comprehensive method of building up the items of a bill.
This new edition of the standard CESMM library retains the format of the CESMM2 edition, and it has been updated to include descriptions for the expanded areas of coverage contained in the recently published CESMM3. The "Civil Engineering Standard Method of Measurement" (CESMM) is the standard used in most areas of civil engineering work for the preparation of bills of quantities. The 26 classes of the CESMM provide a systematic and comprehensive method of building up the items of a bill. However, in many cases, the user also has to apply the measurement, definition, coverage and additional description rules which require additional information to be added to the basic description derived directly from the CESMM. The CESMM3 "Library of Item Descriptions" interprets the rules and allows the user to select appropriate information for addition to the basic description derived from the CESMM itself. The aim is to provide sufficient information so that a user can build up complete item descriptions in 90% of cases by direct reference to the library.
