Professor Dr. Carsten Drebenstedt arbeitete seit seinem Studium zum Bergbauingenieur 1982 in der Lausitzer Braunkohle. Bis 1992 war er mit verschiedenen Aufgaben in der Vorbereitung und Betriebsführung von Tagebauen betraut. Am Bergbauinstitut Moskau promovierte er 1990 zum Thema Direktversturzkombinationen. Von 1992 bis 1995 war er in der Lausitzer Braunkohle AG Leiter der Abteilung Landschaftsplanung und von 1996 bis 1999 Leiter des Ingenieurbüros und Prokurist der Gesellschaft für Montan- und Bautechnik mbH. 1999 wurde er als ordentlicher Professor für Bergbau Tagebau an die TU Bergakademie Freiberg berufen.
