The "Viva o Basquete" Tournament was organized by the SME (Municipal Department of Sports, Recreation and Leisure) of Porto Alegre, from 1992 to 2004. It was amateur and recreational in nature, and its aim was to educate for leisure, starting from leisure. The tournament was free and encouraged the participation of autonomous groups according to community co-management. The aim of this work was to recover the history of this Tournament, analyzing the game as sport and as leisure in a proposal for participation and co-management. The city of Porto Alegre has developed a policy of co-management and a history of using squares as community spaces, understood as moments of encounter and relationships.

Autor

She has a degree in Physical Education from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul and a Masters in Education from the University of Vale do Rio dos Sinos. She has worked as a university lecturer and in primary and secondary school physical education. She was a basketball coach and has been playing for over 40 years.
