Transport in Capitalism
Technological innovation in the transport sector must be accompanied by making it more sustainable, turning transport policy into social policy.
Transport is the only sector that has not yet contributed to the reduction of carbon dioxide emissions. To understand why sustainable transport has not been developed yet, Oliver Schwedes highlights the special features of the transport sector and describes the political conditions for a successful change in transport development. He makes clear that technical innovations alone will not be enough; rather, transport policy must be practised as social policy.
Oliver Schwedes (Prof. Dr.), geb. 1967, leitet seit 2014 das Fachgebiet »Integrierte Verkehrsplanung« am Institut für Land- und Seeverkehr der Technischen Universität Berlin. Nach seiner Promotion an der Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin hat der Politikwissenschaftler in der Projektgruppe »Mobilität« am Wissenschaftszentrum Berlin für Sozialforschung gearbeitet. Seine Forschungsschwerpunkte sind die Verkehrsplanung und -politik.
