Initial conceptual designs are developed and communicated using basic freehand sketch skills when quick idea development is essential. Students will understand various 2D-3D mappings by freehand sketching before utilizing automatic computing tools.
After mastering the basic skills and backgrounds by hand, students will use a 3D Computer-Aided Design (CAD) system to complete the detailed designs of the components and assemblies with accurate geometries and dimensions. Complying with ANSI standards, engineering drawings are created as a means of documentation and communication with downstream applications and manufacturing.
