The aim of this book is to emphasize firstly that rare and serious conditions can be hidden behind common (mis)leading neurological symptoms. Secondly, it stresses the importance of the collaboration with clinician colleagues - a neuroradiologist needs complete and accurate patient information to make a proper diagnosis or a differential diagnosis that can properly guide further diagnostic processing.
The book, structured as an atlas, is divided into three sections according to the most common leading symptoms encountered in hospital emergency units or in outpatient settings. Each proposed case is accompanied by a short medical history, CT and MRI images, and a text describing its most important radiological features.
27 cases were chosen from the authors' everyday practice: rare and peculiar cases, as well as common cases with a twist. Although both authors are experienced neuroradiologists, several of the cases were surprising and it took considerable time toarrive at the correct diagnosis. A certain level of knowledge and experience, together with information from literature, the Internet or from clinicians, helped them solve most of the cases directly, or after consultation with clinicians and further medical examinations and interventions.
This book is mainly intended for residents, general radiologists and neuroradiologists. However, it will also be of help to less experienced colleagues or trainees who need to solve particular cases, encouraging them to think outside the box to find the answers.

Martina Spero was born in 1972 in Zagreb, Croatia, where she graduated from the University of Zagreb Medical School in 1997, and received her PhD from the same University in 2011. She completed a four-year residency in radiology in 2004 and two-year residency in neuroradiology in 2010, prior to receiving her European diploma in Neuroradiology in 2011.
She currently works as a neuroradiologist at the Department of Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology of the University Hospital Dubrava in Zagreb, and prepares telemedicine reports for several county hospitals in Croatia. Her published work includes several peer-reviewed articles and scientific papers. She is a member of several scientific societies, including the Croatian Society of Radiology, the European Society of Radiology and the European Society of Neuroradiology.
Hrvoje Vavro was born in 1973 in Sisak, Croatia. He graduated from Medical School, University of Zagreb, in 1997, completed the radiology residency program in 2004, and became a board certified neuroradiologist in 2010. In 2011 he completed his European Diploma in Neuroradiology.
He is currently working as an attending neuroradiologist at the Department of Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology of the University Hospital Dubrava in Zagreb and part-time consultant neuroradiologist at Radiochirurgia Zagreb Clinic. He also collaborates with the Telemedicine Clinic as a neuroradiologist and emergency radiologist, and prepares telemedicine reports for several county hospitals in Croatia. He previously worked as a consultant neuroradiologist at Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast and Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow, UK.
He is a member of several national and international professional societies, including the Croatian Society of Radiology, European Society of Radiology (ESR), European Society of Neuroradiology (ESNR), European Society of Minimally Invasive Neurological Therapy (ESMINT), and Cardiovascular and Interventional Society of Europe (CIRSE). His publications include several peer-reviewed articles and scientific papers.
